Turmeric Reduces Weight Gain, Suppresses Fat

Turmeric has long been associated with good health and longevity.  Its healing properties have been known for centuries in the Eest.  Now, according to new health benefits are being discovered.  Researchers at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University (USDA HNRCA) have found another possible benefit of turmeric. Not sure how to incorporate this spice in your life?  Try this easy tofu scramble. It makes for a diverse breakfast option!

Tofu Scramble

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Yields: 2 servings
   1 block firm tofu
2 to 3 teaspoon olive oil
½ teaspoon tamari soy sauce
1/8 teaspoon turmeric
1 red onion, chopped
½ red bell pepper, chopped
1/8 teaspoon paprika
1 tablespoon umeboshi vinegar
Dash of black pepper
  1. Press tofu to remove excess water and crumble into small pieces.
  2. Heat oil in a frying pan.
  3. Add tofu, tamari and turmeric.
  4. Sauté for 5 minutes.
  5. Add onion, red pepper, paprika, umeboshi vinegar and black pepper.
  6. Cook for 5 more minutes or until mixture thoroughly heated.

Another Reason To Cut Dairy

Last month I posted an entry The Truth About Dairy…now a recent article has come out with yet another reason to cut dairy from our diets. High Fructose Corn Syrup Contaminated with Toxic Mercury

Ok so this past week or so I had two posts, one about High Fructose Corn Syrup and the other about Mercury Content.  Well now it seems that these two toxins are related!  “According to research published in Environmental Health and conducted in part by a scientist at the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy has revealed that high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is contaminated with the toxic heavy metal mercury.” Which means that if you are drinking sodas, sports drinks, bars, baked goods, crackers, etc you are not only getting high fructose in the body but also mercury!
